Focus Scripture: “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate . . . .” - 2 Corinthians 6: 17a
Admonition
I bring you greetings from the Throne of Grace in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
I must confess that one of the major problems I first had with Christianity because no sooner than I came did I began to see that what obtains therein holds no significant difference from the world where I was coming from. Except for the Holy Bible, Christianity contains almost everything there is in the world outside there. I was therefore soon to discover that being a Christian will make me live in self-contradictions.
However, thanks to God for verses of the Bible like our Focus Scripture this morning that encouraged me that most people I met here have been living in perfect disobedience to God’s commands, but they have been covering up, using the Holy Bible and church-going. Under the series, “Making Your Light So Shine”, it was said that one of the major problems of Christianity today is that the church has become part of the darkness it was meant to oust. And that if out lights must shine so well to be noticed, we must separate ourselves from darkness and its works.
As heavenly-bound children of God we aren’t supposed to be part of the world. We are not supposed to be copying what the world is doing and bring them into our fold. Our citizenship is not of the world; remember Jesus Christ says that His Kingdom is not of this world. And if truly we are mindful of getting back home, we must heed what God is asking us to do in our Focus Scripture this morning: “. . . come out from among them, and be ye separate.” The “them” there could mean any group of people. It could be your family, working place, circle of friends, or even the congregation where you worship. The “them” refers to any person or group of persons who do things outside God’s commands no matter how Godly they look or make their doings look. The command is to “look unto Jesus, the author and the Finisher of your faith.” (Hebrews 12: 2) And “Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;” (Ephesians 5: 1). And yet, “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 11: 1).
As we close this morning, wherever you are, whoever you happen to be under at present, if they aren’t following God and His Christ just as Apostle Paul did, don’t mind that they carry Bible, open it and preach from it, after all, the Bible contains all sorts of things, Jesus says, “This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.” (Matthew 15: 8) And so, “Ye shall know them by their fruits.”(Matthew 7: 16).
Finally this morning, you too can be different. Daniel and his three friends decided to be different; different they were and shook their generation for God and even got a pagan emperor born-again. Joseph was different in his own generation, he flee fornication which you and the people around you now think it’s enjoyment. He got his reward for so fearing God. When Orpah went back to her accused country, Moab, Ruth chose to be different; we might not have had Jesus Christ if not for that beautiful decision to be different. Michaiah decided to speak for God even when two hundred prophets like him spoke lies to Ahab. We can go on and on but for time and space. So, you too can be different if choose to be. Without being different and separate, your FINISHING STRONG remains a big doubt!
Till tomorrow when we shall meet again on this beautiful journey of FINISHING STRONG together, please, keep keeping on in Him!
Jesus loves you!
